My name is Joana de Bairros. I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism where I reside in the Barony of Southron Gaard in the Kingdom of Lochac. I am a Portuguese lady from the first half of the 16th century and I was orginally from Lisboa. My two great loves are early modern clothing and food. This blog is to allow me to share my recipes. I do not just cook Portuguese food, I also enjoy cooking English, Spanish, Middle Eastern, French... you get the idea. I have recently started working on the one period Portuguese cookbook called the Manual da Cozinha da Infanta D.Maria. With the help of my Portuguese tutor I have started translating some of the recipes and then redacting them to make them cookable for a modern audience.
I have cooked a number of feasts for my Barony and will include the menus for the earlier ones here. I have also written some longer articles for the Baronial newletter From the Tower which will be included here.
I am hoping this blog will be a chance to document my journey with period food from my earlier attempts to some of my more recent adaptations!
